To escape the frightening experience brought about by panic attacks symptoms or even, fully recover from panic attacks, you must understand what the disorder is all about and the reasons behind each symptoms. Listed below are the symptoms of panic attacks and a brief explanation.

Shortness of Breath and Smothering Sensations

These two symptoms usually go together. It can be best described as though you are undergoing a heart attack, you feel like you are out of breath and something is pushing against your chest. These are few of the most distressing symptoms of panic attacks. But you should not worry that much because it is not really a heart attack wherein you will suffocate, pass out or stop breathing.

Pain in the Chest

Again, this feels like you are undergoing a heart attack, and yes, this feeling will surely scare you. You may also feel that you are dying because of the chest pain. But then again, you are not having a heart attack but just one of the very common panic attack symptoms. If you experience chest pain, simply try to relax. To do this, do some relaxation exercises such as deep breathing.

Palpitation and increased heart rate

When you are anxious, adrenaline is released into the blood stream, causing your heart rate to increase and you feel palpitations. Also, sometimes, you may feel that as if your heart beat is very slow.

Sweating

During periods of panic attack, your body is preparing for a fight or flight response. In reaction to this, your body heats up and sweat is released into the sweat glands, causing you to perspire profusely.

Dryness of the Mouth

During anxiety or panic attack, some body parts need fluid and one of the most obviously felt panic attack symptoms is dryness of the mouth as the fluids are diverted into those areas of the body. If you experience this symptom, simply suck sweets or take sips of water.

Blanching of the Skin

During a fight or flight response, blood is diverted to the muscles to prepare the body for intense movement. Therefore, the fine blood vessels that are usually superficial to the skin receive lesser blood flow, causing the blanching discoloration. You don’t have to worry because the skin color will go back to normal once the situation is also back to normal.

Shivering or Shaking

When you are anxious, your body temperature drops and you sweat a lot. When this happens, you are most likely to experience shivering or shaking. This is also a normal reaction to fear. Shaking is the body’s response to raise the body temperature by causing the muscles to contract spasmodically to create body heat.

Tingling Sensation in the hands or feet

When your body is preparing for a fight or flight response, muscle tension is altered, blood carbon dioxide and oxygen level changes, and circulation is altered as well. All these cause you to feel numb, weak and there will be tingling sensation usually in the feet, legs, hands, or arms.

These are just some of the many panic attack symptoms. Knowing and understanding the symptoms of panic attacks will help you go through each episode and manage the disorder.
